Crochet Maintenance Aftercare
After Service Care Education | Nice Locs| Atlanta
What You Just Received
You received Crochet Maintenance, a technique that uses a crochet hook to tighten, compact, or refine mature locs by pulling loose hairs back into the body of the loc.
This method is effective for controlling frizz and maintaining shape, but overuse can weaken locs if not spaced properly.
The First 72 Hours
During the first 72 hours after your service:
Avoid moisture (water, steam, sweat, rain)
Do not twist, roll, or manipulate the locs
Avoid friction from hats or tight styles
Sleep with a satin or silk scarf, bonnet, or pillowcase
This allows the internal structure of the loc to stabilize.
Daily Care
Between appointments:
Keep hands out of your locs
Avoid squeezing, pulling, or rubbing the locs
Style gently and minimally
Protect hair during sleep and rest
Crochet-maintained locs mature best when left undisturbed.
Cleansing & Moisture
Shampoo only when approved by Nice Locs
Cleanse the scalp gently; allow suds to rinse through locs
Ensure locs dry completely after washing
Use light hydration only
Avoid heavy oils, creams, waxes, or buildup-prone products
Excess product interferes with proper compaction.
What to Avoid
Re-crocheting at home
Frequent crochet sessions
Heavy products meant to “soften” locs
Tight styles that pull at the root
Allowing unqualified stylists to crochet your locs
Improper crochet work can cause permanent thinning or breakage.
