Curls Added to Locs Aftercare

After Service Care Education | Nice Locs| Atlanta

What You Just Received

You received Curls Added to Locs, an extension-based styling service where curls are added to locs for a finished look. Because curls are an add-on material and not your natural loc structure, some movement and slippage can occur, especially as the loc matures or if the hair is over-manipulated.

This is a style service first — and it requires gentle handling to last.

The First 72 Hours

During the first 72 hours after your service:

  • Avoid moisture (water, steam, sweat, rain)

  • Do not pull, brush, or over-separate the curls

  • Avoid tight styles that stress the curl attachment area

  • Sleep with a satin/silk scarf or bonnet and loosely contain curls if needed

This sets the style and reduces early slippage.

Daily Care

Between appointments:

  • Keep hands out of the curls and out of your roots

  • Separate only as instructed — do not “fluff” aggressively

  • Minimize friction (hoodies, collars, scarves rubbing the curls)

  • Protect curls at night to reduce matting and tangling

Curls last longer when they are protected, not played with.

Cleansing & Moisture

  • Shampoo only when approved by Nice Locs

  • Avoid soaking or scrubbing the curl areas

  • Use light hydration only (mists) if approved

  • Avoid heavy oils, creams, or mousse unless instructed

Excess product can create buildup, frizz, tangling, and premature slippage.

What to Avoid

  • Brushing or combing curls (unless specifically instructed)

  • Picking at attachment points

  • Tight ponytails/buns that pull on curl-added locs

  • DIY reattachment or “tightening”

  • Allowing another stylist to adjust the curl work

Over-manipulation is the #1 reason curl add-ons slip.

What’s Normal

The following are expected:

  • Some frizz over time

  • Some curl separation and movement

  • A small amount of slippage (especially with high activity or friction)

This is a style add-on — it will not behave like permanent loc structure.

What’s NOT Normal

Contact Nice Locs if you experience:

  • Pain, pulling, or scalp tenderness

  • Excessive shedding or breakage near attachments

  • Large sections slipping rapidly

  • Matting that you cannot gently separate

Do not attempt to fix slippage yourself.

When to Book Again

Follow-up depends on:

  • How long you want the curls maintained

  • Your lifestyle and friction exposure

  • Loc maturity and hold strength

Your stylist will recommend timing based on how your hair responds.

Nice Locs Professional Notes

Curls added to locs are meant to be beautiful and temporary, not indestructible.
Gentle care preserves the look — aggressive handling shortens the wear.
