Loc Smithing Aftercare (Recombining Loose Hair)

After Service Care Education | Nice Locs| Atlanta

What You Just Received

You received Loc Smithing, a precision maintenance service where loose or migrated hairs are softly massaged back into the loc they belong to using the palms and controlled hand movement.

No added hair was used.
No wrapping or weighting was performed.

Loc smithing restores loc integrity and cohesion while preserving the natural size, weight, and balance of the loc.

The First 72 Hours

For the first 72 hours after your service:

  • Avoid moisture (water, steam, sweat, rain)

  • Do not manipulate, rub, or separate the locs

  • Avoid tight styles or friction at the root

  • Sleep with a satin or silk scarf, bonnet, or pillowcase

This settling period allows the recombined hair to remain integrated without disruption.

Daily Care

Between appointments:

  • Keep hands out of your locs

  • Avoid rubbing, rolling, or pulling at loose hairs

  • Be mindful when styling or tying hair back

  • Protect hair during sleep and rest

Loc smithing is most effective when the hair is left undisturbed.

Cleansing & Moisture

  • Shampoo only when approved or scheduled by Nice Locs

  • Focus cleansing on the scalp using gentle pressure

  • Avoid aggressive scrubbing of the loc itself

  • Use light hydration only; avoid heavy oils, butters, or waxes

Over-moisturizing or coating the hair can cause loose hairs to migrate again.

What to Avoid

  • Attempting to re-smith hair yourself

  • Twisting, rolling, or rubbing loose hairs back in

  • Excessive oiling of the scalp or locs

  • Tight styles that pull hair away from the loc

  • Allowing another stylist to alter the work

Improper manipulation can cause thinning, breakage, or structural imbalance.

What’s Normal

The following are expected:

  • A cleaner, more cohesive loc appearance

  • Reduced fuzz or flyaway hairs

  • Slight texture variation as hair settles

  • Natural frizz over time

Loc smithing improves integrity — it does not eliminate natural hair behavior.

What’s NOT Normal

Contact Nice Locs if you experience:

  • Pain or soreness lasting longer than 48 hours

  • Redness, irritation, or sensitivity

  • Excessive hair separating again immediately

  • Weak spots or thinning at the root

Do not attempt to correct these issues on your own.

When to Book Again

Loc smithing is performed as needed, based on:

  • Hair texture and density

  • Stage of loc maturity

  • Lifestyle and manipulation habits

Some clients may only need periodic smithing, while others benefit from it as part of regular maintenance.

Nice Locs Professional Notes

Loc smithing is preservative care, not corrective force.

It respects the natural growth pattern of the hair and restores order without adding tension, weight, or foreign material.

Consistency, patience, and gentle handling are what keep locs healthy long-term.
