Traditional Retwist (Palm Roll)

What You Just Received

You received a Traditional Retwist using the palm-roll method. This service maintains the structure of mature locs by guiding new growth into the existing loc pattern without disturbing the integrity of the loc itself.

Palm rolling relies on discipline and minimal manipulation, not force.

The First 72 Hours

  • Avoid moisture, steam, sweating, or rain

  • Do not retwist, twist, or roll the roots yourself

  • Keep hair wrapped with a satin or silk scarf while sleeping

This time allows the retwist to set and reduces frizz and unraveling.

Daily Care

  • Keep hands out of your locs

  • Separate gently only if instructed

  • Avoid pulling locs into tight styles

Healthy locs thrive on rest, not constant handling.

Cleansing & Moisture

  • Shampoo only when approved by Nice Locs

  • Use light hydration (sprays or mists), not oils at the root

  • Do not “refresh” with gels, edge control, or grease

Over-product use causes buildup and weak roots.

What to Avoid

  • Retwisting between appointments

  • Heavy oils, butters, or waxes

  • Tight ponytails or styles that pull at the root

  • Allowing unlicensed or unfamiliar stylists to “touch it up”

Traditional locs are damaged more by over-maintenance than neglect.

What’s Normal

  • Mild frizz

  • Swelling at the root

  • Texture variation in new growth

These are signs of healthy loc movement.

What’s NOT Normal

  • Thinning at the root

  • Loc popping or splitting

  • Persistent pain or irritation

If this occurs, contact Nice Locs before attempting to fix it yourself.

When to Book Again

Most clients return every 4–6 weeks, depending on hair density, lifestyle, and growth rate.

Nice Locs Professional Notes

A retwist is not meant to look “fresh” forever.
It is meant to protect the loc — not freeze it in place.
