Loc Extensions Aftercare

After Service Care Education | Nice Locs| Atlanta

What You Just Received

You received Loc Extensions, a specialized service where extensions were added to create length, fullness, or loc reconstruction. Extensions require a break-in period and careful handling to protect:

  • your natural hair at the connection point

  • the extension material

  • the integrity of the loc as it matures

Some movement and slippage can occur depending on hair type, maturity, and lifestyle.

The First 72 Hours

During the first 72 hours after your service:

  • Avoid moisture (water, steam, sweat, rain)

  • Do not twist, roll, or manipulate attachment areas

  • Avoid tight styles that stress the connection points

  • Sleep with satin/silk protection every night

This settling period supports long-term hold.

The First 4–6 Weeks (Break-In Phase)

This phase matters.

  • Avoid high-tension styling

  • Expect the extensions to “settle” and feel different at first

  • Do not pick at or test attachment points

  • Keep manipulation minimal

Over-handling is the fastest way to create slipping or weak spots.

Daily Care

Between appointments:

  • Keep hands out of your hair

  • Avoid tugging or pulling extensions when styling

  • Protect locs during sleep, workouts, and high-friction clothing

  • Be gentle when separating

Extensions last longer when they are treated like structure, not decoration.

Cleansing & Moisture

  • Shampoo only when approved by Nice Locs

  • Cleanse the scalp gently; do not aggressively scrub the attachment area

  • Rinse thoroughly

  • Dry completely (extensions can hold water longer)

  • Use light hydration only

  • Avoid heavy oils, creams, waxes, and buildup-prone products

Moisture trapped inside extensions can cause odor and weakening if drying is incomplete.

What to Avoid

  • DIY repairs or reattachment

  • Frequent styling changes that stress the same areas

  • Tight ponytails, buns, or updos early in the break-in phase

  • Heavy products meant to “soften” or “slick”

  • Allowing another stylist to adjust extension work

If someone else touches it, it is not guaranteed.

What’s Normal

The following are expected:

  • Mild frizz

  • Texture differences between your loc and the extension

  • Some movement as the loc matures

  • Possible minor slippage depending on lifestyle and manipulation

Extensions are a process — they mature with time and correct care.

What’s NOT Normal

Contact Nice Locs if you experience:

  • Significant slippage quickly after service

  • Pain, pulling, or scalp tenderness

  • Breakage near attachment points

  • Weak spots forming or loc thinning

Do not attempt to fix extensions yourself.

When to Book Again

Follow-up depends on:

  • your maintenance method (traditional, interloc, crochet)

  • loc maturity

  • how the extensions are responding

Your stylist will set the safest follow-up interval to protect your natural hair.

Nice Locs Professional Notes

Loc extensions are an investment. The goal is not just length — it’s healthy integration.
The fewer hands in it, the better it holds.
