Loc Color Aftercare
After Service Care Education | Nice Locs| Atlanta
What You Just Received
You received Loc Color services, which may include lightening, deposit-only color, gray blending, gray coverage, or color correction performed on loc’d hair.
Color services chemically alter the hair’s structure and porosity. This means your locs now require adjusted care to maintain strength, moisture balance, and color longevity.
Color is not just cosmetic—it changes how your hair behaves.
The First 72 Hours
During the first 72 hours after your service:
Avoid moisture (water, steam, sweat, rain)
Do not manipulate, twist, or retighten
Avoid tight styles or friction
Sleep with a satin or silk scarf, bonnet, or pillowcase
This allows the color to fully set and the hair to stabilize after processing.
Daily Care
Between appointments:
Handle locs gently
Avoid excessive touching or styling
Protect hair during sleep and rest
Be mindful of friction from clothing, hats, or scarves
Color-treated locs are more fragile, especially immediately after service.
Cleansing & Moisture
Shampoo only when approved by Nice Locs
Use salon-approved, color-safe cleansing methods
Cleanse the scalp gently; do not aggressively scrub locs
Rinse thoroughly to prevent residue buildup
Allow locs to fully dry after washing
Moisture Guidelines
Use light hydration only (mists or sprays)
Avoid heavy oils, butters, waxes, or creams
Do not coat the loc to “add shine”
Over-conditioning and heavy products weaken color-treated hair and contribute to breakage.
What to Avoid
DIY toning, glossing, or recoloring
Clarifying shampoos unless instructed
Frequent washing
Heat tools unless approved
Tight styles that stress color-treated areas
Allowing another stylist to alter or “refresh” color
Improper product use or reprocessing can cause dryness, fading, or structural damage.
What’s Normal
The following are expected after loc color services:
Slight dryness or stiffness initially
Gradual softening as moisture balance returns
Color evolution or mild fading over time
Texture changes due to porosity shift
Color-treated locs require maintenance, not constant correction.
What’s NOT Normal
Contact Nice Locs if you experience:
Excessive breakage or shedding
Persistent dryness that does not improve
Burning, itching, or irritation
Uneven fading or spotting shortly after service
Do not attempt to fix color issues yourself.
