Traditional Loc Retwist Aftercare (Palm Roll)

After Service Care Education | Nice Locs | Atlanta

What You Just Received

You received a Traditional Loc Retwist using the palm-roll method.
This service guides new growth back into the loc using controlled rotation and soft tension, preserving the loc’s integrity without locking the hair unnaturally tight.

Palm-rolled retwists are designed to maintain structure, not freeze the hair in place.

The First 72 Hours

During the first 72 hours after your service:

  • Avoid moisture (water, steam, sweat, rain)

  • Do not retwist, roll, or manipulate the roots

  • Avoid tight styles, ponytails, or pulling

  • Sleep with a satin or silk scarf, bonnet, or pillowcase

This settling period allows the retwist to hold while minimizing frizz and stress at the root.

Daily Care

Between appointments:

  • Keep your hands out of your locs

  • Separate gently only if instructed

  • Avoid repetitive styling that pulls in the same direction

  • Protect hair during sleep and rest

Traditional locs respond best to low manipulation and consistency.

Cleansing & Moisture

  • Shampoo only when approved or scheduled by Nice Locs

  • Focus cleansing on the scalp, not aggressive scrubbing of the loc

  • Use light hydration methods (mists or sprays)

  • Avoid oils, grease, waxes, or gels at the root

Over-product use leads to buildup, soft roots, and loss of structure.

What to Avoid

  • Retwisting between appointments

  • Over-oiling the scalp

  • Tight styles immediately after a retwist

  • DIY fixes or “refreshing” with styling products

  • Allowing another stylist to adjust or redo the retwist

Traditional locs are most often damaged by over-maintenance, not neglect.

What’s Normal

The following are expected and healthy:

  • Mild frizz

  • Slight swelling at the root

  • Visible new growth as time passes

  • Retwist loosening before your next visit

These are signs of living hair — not failure.

What’s NOT Normal

Contact Nice Locs if you experience:

  • Thinning at the root

  • Persistent pain or soreness

  • Loc popping or splitting

  • Redness, burning, or irritation

Do not attempt to correct these issues yourself.

When to Book Again

Most traditional loc clients should return every 4–6 weeks, depending on:

  • Hair density

  • Growth rate

  • Lifestyle and activity level

Over-retwisting can cause long-term thinning and should be avoided.

Nice Locs Professional Notes

A traditional retwist is not meant to stay perfect indefinitely.
It is meant to protect the loc while allowing natural movement and growth.

Healthy locs are built through patience, restraint, and professional care.
