Styles Over Locs Aftercare

After Service Care Education | Nice Locs| Atlanta

What You Just Received

You received Styles Over Locs, a styling service where your locs were set into a finished look (updo, ponytail styling, braided/twisted styling over locs, pinned looks, etc.). This service is designed to be secure while still respecting your roots and edges.

Styles should feel stable — not tight.

The First 72 Hours

During the first 72 hours after your service:

  • Avoid moisture (water, steam, sweat, rain)

  • Do not re-pin, re-tighten, or redo the style

  • Avoid tight headwear that compresses the style

  • Sleep with a satin/silk scarf or bonnet to preserve the shape

This helps the style hold with less frizz and less tension stress.

Daily Care

Between appointments:

  • Avoid pulling or adjusting the style repeatedly

  • Limit tension on edges and nape

  • Protect the style during sleep and rest

  • If the style uses pins/clips, do not reposition them at home

The more you “fix it,” the faster it breaks down.

Cleansing & Moisture

  • Shampoo only when approved by Nice Locs

  • If cleansing is needed, focus on scalp only

  • Avoid saturating styled areas

  • Use light hydration only, if approved

Over-wetting styled locs increases frizz and loosens structure.

What to Avoid

  • Tight ponytails, buns, or repeated high-tension looks

  • Excessive edge brushing or edge control

  • Heavy oils/grease that cause slipping

  • DIY restyling that increases tension

  • Sleeping without protection

Tension over time leads to thinning — especially around the hairline.

What’s Normal

The following are expected:

  • Mild frizz over time

  • Loosening as days pass

  • Style shifting slightly with movement and sleep

That’s normal wear, not a failed service.

What’s NOT Normal

Contact Nice Locs if you experience:

  • Headache, throbbing, or scalp pain

  • Bumps, redness, or irritation

  • Excessive edge stress or thinning signs

  • Pins/clips poking or causing pain

Remove painful tension immediately and contact Nice Locs.

When to Book Again

Style timing depends on:

  • The style type and tension level

  • Your activity and sweat exposure

  • Your maintenance cycle

Most styles are designed for short-term wear and should not be kept beyond the recommended window for scalp health.

Nice Locs Professional Notes

A good style protects your look and your roots.
If it hurts, it’s too tight — and tight is never the goal at Nice Locs.
