  • Interlock Starter Locs

  • Instant Locs

  • Wick Locs

  • Combination Starter Locs (loc combination only)

  • Standard Loc Size Combination Starters

  • Micro Loc Starters

  • Reattachment Starter Loc Services

  • Specialized Starter Loc Installations

By booking a starter loc service, you acknowledge that you are beginning a permanent loc journey that requires commitment, maintenance, and realistic expectations.

Consultations (Required for All Starter Loc Services)

  • All starter loc services require a consultation.

  • Consultations are used to assess:

    • Hair texture and density

    • Scalp health

    • Loc size eligibility

    • Grid structure

    • Service approval

  • Consultations do not include installation.

Starter loc services will not be booked or performed without a completed consultation.

Hair Preparation & Shampoo Policy

  • All starter loc services include a professional shampoo performed by Nice Locs.

  • Hair is shampooed at the appointment regardless of prior washing.

  • Clients should not shampoo their hair on their own before a starter loc appointment unless explicitly approved.

  • Hair must be fully taken down from any previous style before arrival.

Controlling the shampoo process allows for proper assessment, sectioning, and product use to support scalp health and optimal starter loc installation.

Appointments may be modified, delayed, or rescheduled if hair is not properly taken down or prepared.

Permanent Nature of Starter Loc Services

  • Starter loc installations are permanent foundation services.

  • As locs mature, clients should expect:

    • Shrinkage

    • Swelling

    • Frizz

    • Texture and shape changes

Starter locs are not temporary or cosmetic styles.

Starter Method, Loc Size & Grid Determination

  • Starter method (traditional, interlock, instant, micro, wick, combination) is determined based on:

    • Hair texture

    • Density

    • Length

    • Scalp health

    • Long-term loc goals

  • Loc size and grid structure are selected based on hair qualification and longevity, not trends or inspiration photos.

Photos are used for reference only and do not guarantee identical results.

Wick Locs – Definition & Approved Methods

What Is a Wick Loc

A wick loc is intentionally created to be significantly thicker than standard loc sizes, typically greater than 1mm in diameter, and designed to function as a single dense unit of hair.

Wick locs require intentional sectioning, balance, and long-term planning to prevent scalp strain and structural damage.

Approved Wick Loc Creation Methods

Nice Locs offers two approved methods for creating wick locs:

  1. Wick Locs from Loose (Afro) Hair

    • Created directly from loose natural hair

    • Used when no existing locs are present

  2. Wick Locs from Existing Locs (Loc Combination)

    • Created by combining existing, approved locs

    • Locs must already exist in order to be combined

    • Loose hair cannot be combined into locs without prior loc formation

Combination & Specialized Starter Loc Services

  • Combination and specialized starters may include:

    • Multiple loc sizes

    • Mixed techniques

    • Loc combination using existing locs

If additional products, hair, or materials are required:

  • They must be discussed and agreed to before service begins

  • Unapproved additions will not be installed during the appointment

Reattachment Starter Loc Services

  • All reattachment services require a consultation.

  • Locs are not automatically approved for reattachment.

  • Locs may be declined if they show:

    • Excessive breakage

    • Gaps or hollow areas

    • Weak or compromised connection points

    • Structural instability

Unapproved locs are not eligible for reattachment or loc combination services.

Completion Time & Multiple Sessions

The following starter loc services are not guaranteed to be completed in one day:

  • Micro loc starters

  • Combination starter locs

  • Wick loc starters

  • Extensions (unless explicitly stated)

  • Most reattachment services

Most traditional starter loc services are typically completed the same day, depending on hair condition and density.

Additional sessions may be required and will be discussed during the consultation.

First Maintenance Timing & Care Requirements

Proper maintenance timing is essential to prevent damage, thinning, and tension alopecia.

Traditional Starter Locs

  • First maintenance must occur within 4–6 weeks

  • Clients should avoid excessive moisture and manipulation until approved

Micro Loc Starters

  • Maintenance should occur when new growth reaches 1 to 1.5 inches

  • Servicing earlier may cause root damage, scalp tension, and increased risk of tension alopecia

Crochet or Interlocked Maintenance

  • Maintenance should occur when new growth reaches 1.5 to 2 inches

  • Early servicing may result in root stress and scalp trauma

Delayed Maintenance

Waiting beyond recommended timeframes may result in separation at the loc base, tangling, slipping, or structural compromise.
Services outside the recommended window will be classified as repair services and re-quoted accordingly.

Aftercare Guidance

  • Clients should avoid excessive restrictions (heavy oils, frequent moisture, pulling, twisting, or manipulation) until explicitly approved.

  • Aftercare recommendations are provided based on:

    • Starter method

    • Loc size

    • Hair behavior

Damage caused by disregarding aftercare guidance is not eligible for free adjustment.

Curls & Extension Services (Important Disclosure)

Curls as an Extension Service

  • All added curls (curly ends, curly extensions, or texture enhancements) are considered an extension service, not a natural loc feature.

  • Added curls are not permanent and are expected to:

    • Shift

    • Loosen

    • Slip as the loc matures

This behavior is normal and part of the locking process.

Expected Slippage & Manipulation

  • Curl extensions may slip:

    • As the loc matures

    • During normal growth

    • If over-manipulated (pulling, twisting, frequent styling, or handling)

Slippage of curl extensions is not considered a service failure.

Extension Hair Source & Pricing

  • Extension services are priced separately from salon-provided extensions.

  • When extensions are not purchased through Nice Locs:

    • Hair must be dropped off at the salon at least 24 hours prior to the appointment for preparation and inspection.

    • If hair is not dropped off in advance, prep time will be added to the service and billed to the client.

Unprepared extension hair may result in added time, added cost, service modification, or rescheduling.

Correction Guarantee (Curls & Extensions)

  • Correction of slipping curl extensions is guaranteed as long as:

    • The client follows aftercare guidance, and

    • Nice Locs is the only stylist to adjust, repair, or maintain the extensions.

  • If another stylist attempts to fix or manipulate the extensions, the guarantee is void.

Work altered by another stylist will be re-evaluated and may require repair, re-installation, or replacement at the client’s expense.

Regret, Takedown & Reversal Policy

  • Starter loc installations may be taken down within 30 days in cases of regret.

  • Takedown services:

    • Are not free

    • Are considered a Specialized Installation Service

    • Will cost more than the original starter service

While most starter locs can be taken down within 30 days, some cases may remain eligible beyond that timeframe depending on hair texture and locking progression. Extended eligibility is not guaranteed.

Payments, Refunds & Adjustments

  • All starter loc services are non-refundable.

  • Adjustments do not include:

    • Change of mind

    • Density or size regret

    • Normal loc evolution

Adjustment Timeline

  • Clients must notify Nice Locs within 24 hours of service completion.

  • Approved adjustments must:

    • Be booked via a private link

    • Be scheduled within 7 days of notification

    • Occur within 14 business days of the original install

Delays may result in damage that cannot be corrected at no cost.
