Interloc Starter Locs Aftercare

After Service Care Education | Nice Locs| Atlanta

What You Just Received

You received Interloc Starter Locs, established using an interlocking (interloc) technique where the hair is guided through itself at the root to create a secure foundation.

Although interlocking provides more initial security than palm-rolled starters, these locs are still in the formation stage and require intentional after-care to prevent thinning, holes, or tension-related damage.

Starter does not mean finished.

The First 72 Hours

During the first 72 hours after your service:

  • Avoid moisture (water, steam, sweat, rain)

  • Do not retighten, pull, or manipulate the roots

  • Avoid tight styles or repeated tension

  • Sleep with a satin or silk scarf, bonnet, or pillowcase

This allows the newly interlocked roots to settle into position without stress.

The First 4–6 Weeks (Critical Formation Phase)

This phase determines long-term root health.

  • Do not retighten between appointments

  • Avoid twisting, rolling, or separating aggressively

  • Keep styles loose and low-tension

  • Be mindful of repeated pulling in the same direction

Over-retightening at this stage is one of the leading causes of microloc and interloc thinning.

Daily Care

Between appointments:

  • Keep hands out of your locs

  • Avoid rubbing or tugging at the roots

  • Protect hair during sleep and rest

  • Style gently and rotate part direction when possible

Interloc starter locs need rest, not constant adjustment.

Cleansing & Moisture

  • Shampoo only when approved by Nice Locs

  • Focus cleansing on the scalp using gentle pressure

  • Avoid scrubbing, twisting, or manipulating the roots

  • Use light hydration only — no heavy oils, creams, or butters

Excess lubrication can cause internal loosening and weaken the root structure.

What to Avoid

  • Retightening at home

  • Frequent re-interlocking

  • Heavy oils at the root

  • Tight ponytails, buns, or updos

  • Allowing another stylist to adjust the roots

Interlocking is precise. Improper direction or timing causes long-term damage.

What’s Normal

The following are expected:

  • Clean, compact roots

  • Mild frizz along the loc

  • Slight root visibility as hair grows

  • Natural movement over time

Interlocked roots are secure, not stiff.

What’s NOT Normal

Contact Nice Locs if you experience:

  • Persistent soreness or pain beyond 48 hours

  • Redness or irritation at the root

  • Visible thinning or weak spots

  • Holes or gaps forming at the root

Do not attempt to correct these issues yourself.

When to Book Again

Most interloc starter loc clients return in 6–8 weeks, depending on:

  • Hair density and texture

  • Growth rate

  • Lifestyle and tension exposure

Your stylist will guide you on the safest schedule.

Nice Locs Professional Notes

Interloc starter locs offer structure, but structure without restraint leads to damage.

Healthy roots are built through:

  • proper timing

  • consistent direction

  • minimal interference

Trust the process and the schedule.
