Wick Locs Aftercare
After Service Care Education | Nice Locs| Atlanta
What You Just Received
You received Wick Locs, a large-diameter loc style formed by combining sections of hair into thick, unified locs. Wick locs prioritize strength, durability, and presence, and they require specific care to maintain scalp health and prevent imbalance.
Because of their size and weight, wick locs respond differently than traditional or microlocs.
The First 72 Hours
During the first 72 hours after your service:
Avoid moisture (water, steam, sweat, rain)
Do not twist, roll, or manipulate the wicks
Avoid tight styles or pulling at the base
Sleep with a satin or silk scarf, bonnet, or pillowcase
This allows the base of each wick to settle without stress.
The First 4–6 Weeks (Stabilization Phase)
This phase helps your wicks balance and anchor properly.
Expect stiffness or heaviness — this is normal
Do not attempt to reshape or tighten the base
Avoid constant lifting, swinging, or styling
Keep styles minimal and low-tension
Over-manipulation can cause stress at the scalp and uneven weight distribution.
Daily Care
Between appointments:
Be mindful of the weight of your wicks when styling
Avoid repeated tension in the same direction
Support wicks during long periods of movement
Protect hair during sleep and rest
Wick locs thrive with support, not force.
Cleansing & Moisture
Shampoo only when approved or scheduled by Nice Locs
Focus cleansing on the scalp, allowing suds to rinse through the wicks
Rinse thoroughly to avoid trapped residue
Ensure wicks dry completely after washing
Use light hydration on the scalp only
Avoid heavy oils, creams, butters, or waxes
Product buildup is harder to remove in larger locs and can lead to odor or scalp irritation.
What to Avoid
Tight ponytails, buns, or styles that pull at the base
Over-oiling the scalp
Aggressive scrubbing or twisting of the wicks
DIY tightening, combining, or separating
Allowing unqualified stylists to adjust the base
Wick locs depend on even distribution and professional handling.
What’s Normal
The following are expected:
Heavier feel compared to smaller locs
Minimal frizz due to size
Slow visible change over time
Natural movement as the hair settles
Wick locs mature gradually and steadily.
What’s NOT Normal
Contact Nice Locs if you experience:
Persistent scalp pain or tenderness
Redness, irritation, or sores
Uneven pulling or imbalance
Thinning or stress at the base
Do not attempt corrective work yourself.
When to Book Again
Maintenance timing varies based on:
Number and size of wicks
Hair density and scalp sensitivity
Lifestyle and activity level
Most clients return every 6–10 weeks, or as advised during your service.
